• Emperor Penguins are the last of all the penguin species to start their breeding cycle in the season .. starting as late as end of April to May , they head south to get to their breedng grounds
  
  
• They often choose large flat areas where large groups of pengins can huddle together for warmth .. the breeding ground is often surrounded by large icebergs that give some shelter from the cold antarctic winds
  
  
• The Female Emperor Penguin lays 1 egg in May and the beginning of June
  
  
• they have to endure one of the most difficult breeding conditions of any animal in the world with freezing temperatures in the one of the coldest parts on earth
  
  
• The Male Emperor Penguin huddles over the egg and is in charge of incubating the egg for 2-3 months - he has to go without food and only small sips of snow for water for all that time ..loosing over half his body fat in the process
