Some Ladybug Species are endangered animals for kids that is somtimes difficult to believe as there are so many species of ladybug easily seen .. but some like the Five Spot Ladybird is registered as rare and endangered animal

Many Ladybirds are predatory animals feeding mainly on
aphids like greenfly which is good for any vegetable gardening enthusiast as they keep the greenfly of the plants

Interesting Fact about ladybug

~ When Ladybug larvae has hached .. the young baby ladybugs eat the remaining unhatched ladybug larvae

~ Ladybug Species come in all sorts of colors, some are dullish brown , some a yellow and grey and some ladybug color ranges from muddy oranges to bright scarlet reds


~ moste ladybug species have spots .. but not all ladybug color spots are easily visible , some are quite pale in color whilst others can be vivid yellow or dark black ladybugs color

~ it takes 2 weeks after mating for a female ladybug to lay her eggs

~ when the ladybug eggs are first layed they are golden in color , turning a greenish color

~when the ladybug larvae first hatch they are very small and a transparent ladybug color

~ ladybug larvae can devour as much as 100 aphids a day

~ as the ladybug larvae turns itself into a chrysalis it does not move at all

~ a newly emerged ladybug color is yellow with no spots at all

~ ladybugs excrete a foul tasting and fould smelling yellow fluid when disturbed

~ Ladybirds can suck out the insides of an aphid which then deflates like a balloon

~ the lifecycle of a ladybug is very similar to that of a butterfly

~ similar stages of ladybug metamorphosis can be observed

Ladybug Eggs
~ Ladybug Eggs are layed in batches , often on the underside of leaves

~ Ladybug eggs are tiny and jelly like looking

~ It takes between 4-10 days for ladybug eggs to hatch

Ladybug Larvae
~ Ladybug larvae hatch after 4-10 days depending on surrounding temperatures

~ newly hatched baby larvae are hungry ..and will eat any of the unhatched ladybug larvae

~ they will then go in search of more food

~ ladybug larvae eat sugary aphids

~ as the ladybug grows it begins wriggling out of its skin .. but has a full new skin

~ at this point the ladybug larvae is about 1 cm long ( 1/3 inch)

~ during the ladybug larvae stage it sheds its skin about 4 times

~ three weeks after first having hatched the ladybug larvae stops eating

~ the larvae attaches itself to a plant ..it has a special kind of foot at the end of its abdome that hooks itself to a plant

~ the metamporhosis of the ladybug begins again as the larvae turns itself into a chrysalis

~
inside the chrysalis is a stijj and by now dry ladybug nymph

~ it takes 8 days befor ethe ladybug pupa begins to move again ..only now it is no longer a pupa but a fully fledged adult ladybird

~ After about 8 days the ladybird begins to move again .. there is a sudeen shake and the nymph case gets torn off

~ usually the head of the ladybug comes out first of the chrysalis

~ a newly emerged ladybug color is yellow with no spots at all

~ after emerging out of the chryslais , the ladybug rests on a stem of a flower and allows its body shell to harden

~ it extends its wings and allows them to dry too

~ a young ladybird will eat lots and lots of aphids to build up its storage of fat and sugar

~ now slowly the ladybug distinctive black spots emerge and slowly grow darker in color

~ harlequin ladybirds originated in Asia but have been found to be the most invvasive type of ladybug to be introduced to other countries as biological agents

~ today the harlequin ladybug threatens a lot of native ladybugs in Europe and the USA as it does not need a winter dormancy period and eats more general food like butterfly larvae, other ladybird larvae and can continually throughout the winter reproduce .. endangering the survival of native ladybugs
