Bluey the Budgerigar

When my son was younger we had a pet bird .

His name was bluey and he was a budgerigar .

We had put Sandpaper in the bottom of the cage to make cleaning easier but my son did not like cleaning the cage, detested it in fact but he loved Bluey.

For a Budgerigar he was quite large with a bight blue set of feathers .
One of the funny pet stories I can remember is when my son tried to fill the paddling pool in the from garden with water before I came home.

Dashing back from the cafe I worked in, I felt guilty that I had left him alone, I was running down the road with the pram and his sister trying to meet him and was a bit upset with myself when I did not make it in time.

My son ( 7 at that time) meanwhile had tried to fill up the paddling pool in the front garden , when he got home from school. He had not connected the hose connector properly to the kitchen sink tap and threaded the hose through the kitchen window to fill up the paddling pool. By the time I reached home the kitchen was flooded with only a half full paddling pool .

He had taken the cage with Bluey the Budgerigar to watch him ..and the birdcage was now sitting a quarter underwater, sandpaper floating at the top and Bluey watching from his top perch .

My son was soo absorbed in his task he had not noticed , the flood , the top perch,just wanting to surprise us with a full pool on a hot summer day .

I have never forgotten that day

Rest assured, Bluey the Budgerigar was safe, the kitchen floor restored and I tried never to be that late again
